Dr. Petrisor's research interests include the evaluation and feasibility of
phytoremediation of heavy metals, investigations of plant species selection, soil
amendment treatment and methods for stimulating plant growth in contaminated
conditions. She has extensive experience in the environmental problems and
potential solutions associated with phospho-gypsum stacks (a common area of interest
for Florida and her native Romania). Her primary responsibilities at the IICER
include providing technical support to international projects being conducted for the
U.S. Department of Energy. The purpose of these joint international projects
is to identify and evaluate environmental remediation technologies with potential for
application to sites in the DOE complex. Current projects in this program include
the removal of heavy metals from soil by plants (phytoextraction). Dr. Petrisor
has extensive experience in the areas of environmental site characterization using
various toxicity and extraction procedures as well as site risk assessment methodologies.
