Dr. Fernald is Professor Emeritus of Geography at Florida State University and holds the
position of State Geographer of the State of Florida. Prior to retirement, he was
Associate Vice President for Research and Director of the Institute of Science and Public
Affairs. Dr. Fernald has over 25 years of experience as a research administrator. His current areas of research focus on spatial analysis of land use, resource management and geographic education. He has received the James R. Anderson Medal of Honor in Applied Geography from the Association of American Geographers and a Resolution from the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida for his efforts toward a "better environmental future for the State of Florida". Dr. Fernald is presently under a consulting contract to the National Geographic Society and serves as Co-Director of the Florida Geographic Alliance. Return To The Staff Directory...
