Dr. Slavik Dushenkov is a leading scientist who is widely recognized for his contributions to
the environmental sciences and soil ecology. His scientific efforts have been documented in 43
peer-reviewed papers, in several textbooks, and in a number of widely used laboratory
manuals.
Since 1992, Dr. Dushenkov has been involved with the development and application of phytoremediation
technology involving industrial and academic settings. Dr. Dushenkov has extensive
experience in applying biotechnology to engineering challenges related to phytoremediation. He
has conducted extensive research using terrestrial plants to remediate soil and aqueous streams
contaminated with heavy metals and radionuclides. In collaboration with Ukrainian scientists,
he studies 137Cs and 90Sr behavior in the Chernobyl zone.
